January 20, 2009 by JSOnline — Cassandra Woods of Milwaukee was standing by the Washington Monument and thinking about the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr.

“When I first walked here and saw the monument, it put me back to the teachings of King. It’s history in the making.”

Then she added: “Now it’s actually here. It’s actually tangible.”

Clifton Phelps, a leader at Running Rebels, a Milwaukee organization that runs an intensive probation program for young offenders, said there was a difference between what was going on today in Washington and the speeches of King.

“Now, it’s not about that anymore. Everyone is here for the same reason,” Phelps said.
