January 19, 2009 by JSOnline — When you start a daylong bus ride on Monday just after midnight, the first order of business is getting some sleep.
So a group of Milwaukee area residents who teamed up and chartered a bus to head to the inauguration is just waking up. They’re somewhere in Ohio and haven’t stopped for breakfast yet, said Cozette McLemore, who works with the Running Rebels, an organization that runs an intensive probation program for young offenders.
Some on the bus hadn’t met before climbing aboard. The youngest is in middle school and the oldest is 80, McLemore said. And it’s a diverse group, including blacks, whites and someone who is Puerto Rican.
“When we got out of Illinois, there was a lot of bad snow,” McLemore said. The driver took it slow through the slush, but “now we’re making up the time,” she said.
The group plans to stop in Breezewood, Pa., overnight and drive into Washington in the morning.
