MILWAUKEE (CBS58) — Area kids and teens put on their hard hats to help clear the way for what will soon be a free clinic and homeless shelter on the Northside.
A former factory and warehouse building located at 24th and Center streets will be the future home of the MacConon Brown Homeless Sanctuary (MBHS), a nonprofit organization.
“This is becoming a full scale maximum center for Milwaukee’s homeless and at-risk homeless people,” said Sister MacCanon Brown, CEO of MBHS. “There will be floor-by-floor real array of significant help.”
In addition to being a shelter, the center will also have a clinic with free healthcare serving the 53206 zip code, one of Milwaukee’s most disadvantaged areas.
A lot of works still needs to get done before its ready.
Running Rebels, the youth organization volunteered to help as a service project, including 16-year-old Victor Barnett. “Helping bring this homeless shelter to life, we’re helping move bricks and it’s just an honor to help out the community,” he said.
