January 28, 2015 by UCLA Men’s Basketball — This week’s UCLA “Spotlight” features freshman basketball player Kevon Looney, who has made a tremendous impact on the Bruins’ team this season. He is the nation’s only freshman currently averaging a double-double. Looney, a 6-foot-9 forward from Milwaukee, Wis., enters this Thursday’s game against Utah having netted 13.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

In addition, Looney has totaled 10 double-doubles, the second-highest total in the Pac-12 and the highest total in the country among freshmen. In the Bruins’ 86-81, double overtime win against Stanford on Jan. 8, he registered career-highs with 27 points and 19 rebounds. A former standout at Hamilton High School (Milwaukee, Wis.), Looney earned McDonald’s All-America honors during his senior season.

Looney and the UCLA men’s basketball team host Utah this Thursday evening in Pauley Pavilion. Game time is 7 p.m. (PT). UCLA’s game will be nationally televised by ESPN2.
